May Highlights
Thank you to all who volunteered their time for our Maplewood Farm field trip! We could not have done it without you!!
Literacy - We are working at listening to the individual sounds ( phonemes) in words. We stretch out words and count them using our fingers and blocks. A picture of a shoe will be shown and sounds "sh" - "oo" (2 sounds, 2 blocks) or a picture of a sheep "sh"- "ee" - "p" ( 3 sounds, 3 blocks). We are counting sounds, not letters. This really helps the children in their emergent writing skills.
Numeracy - We are working on showing numbers to 10 in parts or as "number stories". For example 10 can also be 6 and 4 etc..
Printing numbers and letters starting from the top is a daily focus.
Our insect unit will begin with the arrival of our butterfly larvae - be sure and come in to see the "nursery".

April Highlights
Happy Spring everyone! I hope you had a great "Break" and wonderful adventures!
The first week of April we will be focusing on Easter activities. The remainder of the month will be our "Farm" theme. We will be learning about farms and various farm animals. This will culminate in a field trip to Maplewood farm on Tuesday, April 24. A notice will be coming home soon.
On April 13 we will be visiting the Edible Garden At Loutet Farm to learn about how things grow and what they are growing. We will continue visiting at different times in the next few months.
Hip Hop dance lessons begin on Monday, April 16 and run for two weeks for all classes - fun!
Our Kilometre Club begins on Wednesday, April 11 and goes until the end of June. The children walk or run around the gravel field from 10:00 until 10:16. We do this rain or shine Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child wears runners on these days. Three times around the field is a kilometre. Your child's progress will be recorded in the classroom.
Classroom instruction of the personal safety program Let's Talk About Touching will take place this month. This program is designed to teach kindergarten children strategies they can use to protect themselves from sexual abuse. Please feel free to speak with me regarding the program. ( I will be teaching it.)
Thank you!
